30 weeks WHOOHOOOO!

So here we are in the 30's finally! I don't know about anyone else but I'm starting my countdown to this baby coming out! I am officially TIRED of being pregnant now and can't wait to see my son. Around 29 weeks the tides started to turn and happy pregnant Tasha went far away and was replaced by grumpy, moody Tasha. I really thought some women overexaggerated some of the big third trimester symptoms but now I know differently. I feel and look like a fat moo cow and my doctor even said I'm pretty large. I'm now in a constant state of swelling and my feet and hands look like there is no bones in them. I can't even describe how frustrating it is to be stuck on the couch or in bed because standing seems like way more effort than its worth. I think part of my grumpy attitude comes from the fact that I'm so used to doing everything myself and now I need Jay to help me with everything, its so frustrating. I don't enjoy being this helpless AT ALL! And I have to give Jay alot of credit because he is so patient with me and SO supportive. He helps me laugh through the tense moments. He seems so relaxed about everything but that could be due to the fact that he can just pour himself a drink whenever he wants. Unfortunately, I can't do that so I usually go on cleaning sprees to relax. Jay get so frustrated when he comes home and I look like a swollen tomato from scrubbing things all day. But I'm proud to say that I've pretty much reoraganized all of our things including the cabinets and closets! YAY!

In baby news, baby seems to be growing very large now. He even seems to have a stubborn personality to me. Baby Gerken usually likes punch and kick and roll in my belly all night long waking his momma up every hour. When I finally decide to get up in the morning he goes right to sleep for like five hours! Then he wakes back up in the afternoon around 1pm and stays awake. While I clean or check my emails, he just goes into his happy world just rolling around in there over and over again. Like right now, his hand keeps poking out and sliding around directly above my belly button. I say he is stubborn because he seems to have found a nook in my right side that he never leaves and he is still breach. At night when he is really active and sticking far out of my belly I can put my hands on my side and he cradles his back into them. Now that he is so big, its really hard NOT to feel him when he moves. The other night Jay was able to feel one of his little spaz episodes when he starts throwing his arms and legs out all over the place. He does that alot at night. I'm starting to think that the baby doesn't like it when he cant hear me or jay or when I'm just lying still because thats when he really goes crazy. He only sleeps well when I'm sitting talking to Jay or when I'm walking around.

I will post new belly picture in week or two. I look pretty much the same as last week so not much of a difference right now. =)

28 week ultrasound

Ok everyone! So we had another ultrasound today to check how the baby is developing (and to look at that whole thing with the kidneys) and the doctor and the ultrasound technician said he is looking GREAT! I think the ultrasound technician said our son looked great about ten times. I am so damn happy he is doing wonderful!!! He sure is moving around like he is a healthy, growing baby. Especially right now, his fist keeps jutting out the front of my stomach with a crazy amount of strength! So they said the baby weighs 2lbs. 12 oz. which is right on track for his gestational age. So I guess it turns out that I AM the one getting big and fat and not the baby. Teeheehee =)
But we might have an explanation for that.....I have to have a three-hour glucose screening test done for gestational diabetes. Jay and I went for the one hour test three weeks ago and by Dr. Visintine's standards my levels were a little elevated. But he says that my actual doctor, Dr. Pollock, might have different standards and levels that he follows which may mean that I'm fine. Either way gestational diabetes can cause excessive weight gain in pregnant women no matter how good they are eating. I honestly dont think I eat more than any other person but my 40+ pound weight gain says otherwise. I average about 4lbs. gained every month. But the good news is, if I do get gestational diabetes it can be very well controlled all the way up until the baby is delivered (after delivery everything is normal again) and I'm totally ready to change my habits to make sure our son is born as healthy as can be. So I may be saying bye-bye! to all sweets pretty soon!
So more about the baby...so at the ultrasound we were able to see how big he has become and it was so amazing as always! His face is so round and chubby, and his cheeks holy cow!!! His cheeks make him look like a hamster storing food in his mouth, they're huge!! I guess he didn't like it when the camera was rolling all over my belly because the ultrasound girl's hand kept flying up from him kicking her. It seemed for a while that the baby had hibernated in my belly because he had turned around backwards and I couldn't feel his kicks as much. But then about three or four days ago he finally rolled over and man was he soooooo much stronger than before! Jay and I actually watched his shoulder and arm rise up from my belly when he rolled and ever since then we see him all the time. I noticed that he loves to grab onto my ribs which is so annoying when I'm trying to put on make-up or I'm eating. He also likes to push with all his strength towards the front side of my belly which is an indescribable sensation. Sometimes he just completely freaks out and starts kicking and punching all at once like a madman! I see sports in his future for sure.
Well, we have another appointment on Monday, and our 36 week ultrasound on May 1st. At the next ultrasound the doctor will check the baby's position and start discussing birthing options! I can't believe how time is flying! I'll post new pictures soon, possibly tomorrow.

Update on baby registry...by Jay

Yes...i have finally decided to sit down at the computer to write an update...well...with some "encouragement" from Tasha!

The Babies R Us registry has the names under Natasha Gerken and Jason Gerken. No...we are not married yet. We just figured it would be easier since the baby will have the last name Gerken. Sorry for the typo in the shower cards.

We have another ultrasound coming up this Friday so keep an eye out for more pictures and an update on the little man and his development.

I have realized the hardest part of this entire process (for me) is naming my future son. I know no matter what we name him that kids will find a way to make fun of his name regardless of what it might be.

This is a very exciting time for the two of us and it makes me very happy to have the kind of support that everyone has been showing us. I want to say thank you to everyone and i hope this new addition to the family doesn't break too much stuff when he comes to visit.

26 weeks!

So I took some new pictures last night before bed. This is my 26 1/2 week belly. And yeah I'm only carrying ONE baby even though everyone thinks I'm either having twins or I'm full term. I guess we'll find out on March 6th if the baby is just big or I'm just big =)

And here are some more ultrasound pictures....

And here is a picture of the crib I built two days ago!

*Baby Things*

In case anyone needed to know about the baby registry...Jay and I registered at Target.com and Babiesrus.com under Natasha Daor or Jason Gerken.

Our registry might be a little sloppy at this point, there is so much stuff on those websites to chose from and I've obviously never done this before so I'm having a hard time organizing it. Today I went crib shopping with my grandpa and mom and it gave me a chance to look at some things we put on the registry. The Pooh crib bedding and matching nursery decor was really, really nice. Everything in the collection seems to be soooo soft and fuzzy. I think its even called the Soft and Fuzzy Pooh collection (I really want it BAD! teeheehee). The crib we picked out is also really, really nice. We have to wait 14 to 21 days until its shipped to the store, but here is a picture of it.....

We also picked out a nice mattress. I was surprised at how expensive just a crib and a mattress could be! I'm a lucky girl to have such a great grandfather because it would have taken me and Jay a few more months to save up that much money! So thank you grandpa and grandma, I love you. It was pretty funny watching my grandpa walk around the store with mom and I. He was really stuck on the idea that cribs should come with matresses and bedding for the price you pay (haha). He even pointed to some bedding and I had to remind him I was having a boy and not a girl. What was even more funny was when the girl who worked there came to help us with the mattresses and she was explaining how all of their mattresses are inspected and improved for the best quality, then she even pointed one out in particular to us. We were about to pay for the one that SHE told us to buy and it turned out that the mattress had just been recalled for defects and something hazardous about the plastic in it. Hahaha. But we ended up getting a nice Serta mattress instead which looks like its built better than both of my queen size mattresses. Anywho, most of the big stuff is out of the way now which is a relief! I can't wait until everything starts coming together with the nursey, I think I will never leave the baby's room. It already feels like a happy place to be, even better than our bedroom.

24 Weeks

Here are some new pictures from today at 24 weeks. I have a rash from the pregnancy and I dont know if you will be able to tell, but it makes taking pictures not so fun. I also have new ultrasound pictures of the baby's face and ting-ting. I will scan them later but for now I just took pictures of them.....

So, alot has happened over the last couple weeks. I posted a blog about my ear infection, and after a few days my ear drum ruptured. It was painful. When I saw my ultrasound doctor yesterday, he recommended that I go see a ear, nose, and throat specialist. He also recommended that I go see a dermatologist since I caught ringworm from a little boy I know and its only become worse over the past 6 weeks. And if that wasn't enough to worry about, yesterday Jay and I found out that the baby's kidneys were larger than normal 4 weeks ago but the doctor and his nurses failed to tell us this until yesterday. Ugh. This is why I have new ultrasound pictures because the baby has to be monitored now, most likely for the rest of the pregnancy, but yesterday everything appeared to have gone back to normal. The doctor says its nothing to worry about now that the kidneys are no longer enlarged but if they get an abnormal reading again then someone might have to look at the baby after he is born. He also said that sometimes this abnormality is linked to down syndrome which raised my risk factor a little bit but I still have a 1 and 950 chance so thats not too bad. Jay is not worried at all, and I'm not too worried about it now that I talked to the doctor about it but it still pisses me off that we weren't told. Doctors are idiots.
On the bright side of things, we saw our baby again and this time he is so much bigger and chubbier. His face and body were so much more defined, it was amazing!! He looks perfect and thinking about his little hands and feet makes me want to cry. We will have another ultrasound at 28 weeks so there will be more pictures of him then. Yay!
